A tradition of fine cleaning started in 1945 when Bill and Blanch Carr opened Carr’s Cleaners. In 1979 Harry and Sandy Boucher continued that tradition with an eye towards growth. Just two years later they opened up their second location in Turlock. In 1986 they moved from the original Carr’s location on West Main Street to a larger facility with drive-thru access for customers at 500 East Main Street. They also purchased an existing cleaners in Atwater in 1985. They continued their growth in 1997 with the purchase of Du-Rite Cleaners in Turlock and again in 1999 by purchasing Ideal Cleaners in Modesto.
In 2000 their son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Trista Boucher, purchased the business. A few years later they consolidated the Du-Rite location in to their current downtown location and sold the Modesto location. They now have two locations in Turlock and one in Atwater. They also operate a home and office pick-up and delivery route in the Turlock area and a carpet and upholstery cleaning division.
Carr’s has always strived to be a leader in technology and innovation in the dry cleaning industry. Their recent switch to professional wet cleaning is one more example of always looking for ways to improve and provide a better product for their customers.
